This is Suzanne's quote on last night's decision to refuse the planning application for the development at The Woodlands. The residents, as you can imagine, are thrilled.
“After more than a year of uncertainty for residents, the Planning Committee has listened to residents and made the right decision on The Woodlands.
This was never about NIMBYism or saying no to housing. We need more homes, including social housing — but that doesn’t mean every development is right for every site. Supporting new housing and demanding the right development in the right place are not mutually exclusive.
Residents have raised genuine concerns about whether this proposal is the right use of The Woodlands and whether it represents the best use of taxpayers’ money.
I’ve stood with residents throughout because their voices deserve to be heard, and they now have.
I hope the planning officers now do the right thing and look at the alternative suggestions for the site and a better use of taxpayers' money, and do the right thing for The Woodlands and the wider Wollaston community long term.”
