Public Open Space Update
Sadly, the public open space called The Dell has gone to Appeal..
Undeterred, Friends of The Dell and I continue to work hard to protect the land.
So, residents, including me (and Sid), conducted a traffic survey across a 10-hour shift to prove that releasing this public open green space for a monolithic supermarket extension is wrong and has significant highway safety issues.
The results were shocking. Over 100 cars in either direction consistently travel down Bridgnorth Road per hour, which is huge.
Why did we do this? The mitigation for the loss of public open space is to provide an alternative play area. However, it is over 800 metres away (two laps of an Olympic track) and pedestrians, including young children, must cross a very busy primary route, the Bridgnorth Road A458, which raises huge highway safety issues.
The planning committee, the voice of reason, erred on safety and refused the development.
Sadly and ruthlessly, Aldi prioritises profit over the safety of pedestrians and children and has returned for more via the Appeal.
I have been committed to supporting residents and difficult planning decisions for years and will continue to do so.
And of course Sid too
