The tax rise is detrimental to our pubs. With inflation at 3% and projected to rise again, the employer National Insurance will increase in April, along with the Government's business rate tax hike, our local pubs will experience significant financial strain and will need our support.
The new rate means that, for the average pub across the Stourbridge constituency, business rates will increase by £5,519 starting April 1st, and on top of this, employers will have to pay the national insurance increase.
The new tax will force landlords to raise their prices or shut down pubs permanently; this tax will heavily impact all our locals.
It is why we have set up a petition at www.savethelocal.co.uk to show how this government has got this badly wrong.
Victoria and Anthony at the Queens Head on Enville Street, Stourbridge say,
"The tax increase will significantly impact us. We may have to raise prices to cover costs, which we do not want to do. Customers should not have to pay more than a fiver for a pint. This tax hike is making it even tougher for the hospitality sector in an already struggling market. We urge the government to reconsider this tax increase and maintain the current rate."
First, they came for pensioners, then farmers and their families and now pubs, abandoning all their promises in the process. Our pubs like the Queens Head are an integral part of the region's heritage, and we can’t afford to lose any more of them."
